Episode Ten | The Shadow’s Return | The Occult’s Bride | Chosen Against My Will | Short Mystery Story
The night after the battle felt deceptively calm. The torches, the chanting, the black flames—they had vanished. My home was quiet. Too quiet.
I sat on the floor, cradling my stomach, tears still streaking my face. My child had spoken. The covenant of light had declared itself. And yet… a cold whisper crawled across my skin, as though something beyond the walls had survived.
I whispered a Psalm, trembling:
> “The LORD will keep you from all evil; He will keep your life. The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.” (Psalm 121:7–8)
I wanted to believe it.
A Flicker in the Shadows
Hours later, a flicker of movement caught my eye. A shadow, darker than darkness, sliding across the corner of the room.
I froze, my heart hammering. I whispered Yeshua’s words:
> “Behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
The shadow paused, almost as though it had heard the words. But then it retreated into the night.
The stranger’s warning returned in my mind: “They will seek another way.”
I realized then that tonight was not over. The darkness was alive. Patient. Calculating.
A Letter in the Wind
The wind picked up suddenly, carrying a scrap of paper through the broken window. I caught it with trembling hands.
The words were written in red ink, jagged and uneven:
"You may have survived the flame, but the shadow knows your child. The Bride of Flame will yet be tested. Yield, or all shall burn."
My hands shook. My stomach twisted. I felt the weight of the prophecy pressing down like a mountain.
I whispered Psalm 91, praying aloud for protection:
> “He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and buckler.” (Psalm 91:4)
The Stranger’s Return
A soft knock at the door startled me. I froze. The sound was slow, measured—the same pattern I had heard before, yet different somehow.
The stranger stepped into view, his presence steady, reassuring. His eyes were heavy with concern.
“They’ve returned,” he said. “Not in the same form, not the same strength… yet they will test you again. The Shadow moves in silence, and it knows your child is the key to their ancient power.”
I clutched my stomach. “What can I do? I am only one woman!”
He placed a hand over mine. “You are not alone. The Almighty is with you. And His Word is your sword and shield.”
> “For the LORD your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.” (Deuteronomy 20:4)
The Warning of the Shadow
He knelt beside me, lowering his voice:
“The Shadow does not need fire. It does not need blood. It thrives in fear, in doubt, in hesitation. Every moment you falter, it grows stronger. You must prepare your heart. You must declare the covenant again—now, before it strikes.”
I trembled. I could feel it—like the slow crawl of ice across my skin—the presence of something watching, patient, waiting for me to weaken.
> “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
The words rang in my mind like a bell. I had survived fire. I had survived the Blade. But the Shadow… the Shadow was clever.
And tonight, I would face it.
But I did not yet know how close it had come.
A sudden gust of wind blew through the shattered window. My hair whipped across my face. My heart froze.
And then, from the corner of the room, a voice whispered—soft, chilling, impossible to locate:
“The child will be mine. The Bride will fall. The Shadow waits.”
