Ingredients

8 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced

1 cup dried fruits (such as prunes, apricots, golden raisins, or cranberries)

½ cup water or apple juice

¼ cup honey or maple syrup (optional)

2 tsp ground cinnamon

½ tsp ground nutmeg

½ tsp ground cloves (optional)

1 Tbsp lemon juice

Pinch of kosher salt

Optional garnish: chopped toasted walnuts or pecans
Instructions

Prepare ingredients: Peel, core, and dice apples. Roughly chop larger dried fruits (like apricots or prunes).

Combine in crockpot: Place apples, dried fruits, water (or juice), honey/maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, lemon juice, and salt in the slow cooker. Stir to mix evenly.

Cook: Cover and cook on low 4–6 hours or high 2–3 hours, until apples are tender and dried fruits have plumped.

Mash or blend: Lightly mash for chunky texture or use immersion blender for smooth compote.
