Ancient Ashkelon and Modern Day Israel - What If the Voice You’ve Been Waiting For Has Been Speaking All Along?
I didn’t expect it to hit me there.
Standing in the wind, somewhere between ancient ruins and modern life, I felt this strange tension inside me… like two worlds were colliding. The dust of history beneath my feet, and the noise of today in my mind.
And then a question surfaced:
“Why do I still feel distant from God… even when I believe?”
If you’ve ever felt that, you’re not alone.
This study is for you.
๐ฟ The Hidden Struggle: Hearing God in a Noisy World
Let me be honest.
There have been seasons where I prayed… but felt nothing.
I read Scripture, but it felt dry
I worshiped, but my heart felt distant
I believed, but I still felt lost
And the most painful thought was this:
“Maybe God speaks… just not to me.”
But that thought?
It’s a lie.
๐ฅ The Turning Point: God Has Always Been Speaking
One day I read this:
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” — Psalm 19:1
Not whisper. Not suggest.
Declare. Proclaim.
Creation isn’t quiet.
It’s shouting.
Then Yeshua said something that shook me:
“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” — Matthew 11:15
Wait…
That means the issue isn’t that God is silent.
The issue is whether I’m truly listening.
๐️ The Real Problem: We Expect God to Sound Different
I realized something uncomfortable.
I had created an expectation of how God should speak:
Loud, obvious, undeniable
A booming voice or dramatic sign
Something I couldn’t miss
But Scripture shows something else.
When Elijah was desperate, broken, and searching…
“The Lord was not in the wind… not in the earthquake… not in the fire… and after the fire came a still small voice.” — 1 Kings 19:11–12
A whisper.
Not because God is weak…
But because intimacy requires closeness.
๐ Why We Feel Disconnected (And How to Fix It)
Let’s get practical.
Here are the real barriers I discovered in my own heart:
1. Noise is Drowning Out the Whisper
Modern life is loud.
Notifications
Opinions
Anxiety
Endless distractions
But God’s voice often comes quietly.
Yeshua modeled this:
“Very early in the morning… He went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.” — Mark 1:35
Solution: Create intentional silence
Start with 5–10 minutes daily
No phone, no music, no agenda
Just presence
You’re not trying to “hear a voice.”
You’re learning to recognize one that’s already there.
2. We’re Looking for Information Instead of Relationship
I used to read Scripture like a textbook.
But Yeshua said:
“My sheep hear My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.” — John 10:27
Did you catch that?
Hearing comes from belonging
Not from striving
Solution: Shift from studying to encountering
Ask while reading:
“What does this show me about God’s heart?”
“Where is He inviting me closer?”
3. Fear is Blocking Our Ability to Trust
Sometimes I didn’t hear God… because I was afraid of what He might say.
What if He asks too much?
What if I fail?
What if I misunderstood?
But then I read:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are Mine.” — Isaiah 43:1
And Yeshua echoed that heart:
“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” — Luke 12:32
God’s voice is not condemning. It is calling.
✨ The Breakthrough: Recognizing How God Speaks
Once I stopped forcing it… I started noticing it.
God speaks in ways I had overlooked:
๐ Through Creation
A sudden peace. A moment of awe. A sense of “He is here.”
Psalm 19 wasn’t poetic exaggeration. It’s reality.
๐ Through Scripture
A verse that suddenly feels alive… like it’s speaking directly into your situation.
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” — Matthew 4:4
๐️ Through Inner Prompting
A quiet nudge:
“Call that person”
“Let it go”
“Trust Me”
Not loud. But persistent.
๐ค Through People
Sometimes truth comes through someone else’s words, timing, or encouragement.
⚔️ The Lie You Must Break Today
Here it is:
“God is distant.”
No.
Yeshua revealed something radically different:
“The kingdom of God is in your midst.” — Luke 17:21
God is not far.
He is near.
He is present.
He is speaking.
๐ฟ A Simple Practice That Changed Everything for Me
If you take one thing from this, let it be this:
The “Listen First” Practice
Every day:
Sit quietly for 5 minutes
Breathe slowly
Say: “Speak, Lord. I’m listening.” (1 Samuel 3:10)
Don’t force anything
Just be available
Then:
Read a short passage (Psalms or the words of Yeshua)
Notice what stands out
Write it down
Over time, something shifts.
Not overnight.
But deeply.
๐ก What If Nothing Happens?
Let me answer the question you’re already thinking:
“What if I try this… and still hear nothing?”
Stay.
Because silence doesn’t mean absence.
Remember:
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
Stillness comes before knowing.
๐ฅ Final Thought: You’re Not Being Ignored
If I could sit across from you right now, I’d tell you this plainly:
God is not ignoring you.
He has never stopped speaking.
From ancient Ashkelon… to modern Israel… to wherever you are right now…
His voice is still moving. Still calling. Still inviting.
The question isn’t:
“Is God speaking?”
The question is:
“Am I willing to slow down enough to hear Him?”
๐ A Simple Prayer
I’ll leave you with this:
“God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob…
Open my ears to hear You.
Quiet the noise inside me.
Teach me to recognize Your voice…
Not in fear, but in trust.
Not in striving, but in relationship.
In Yeshua’s name, amen.”
If this stirred something in you, sit with it.
Don’t rush past it.
Because this might be the moment…
where everything begins to change.
