I Didn’t Know Caring for My Parent Would Break Me - Until God Met Me in the Middle of It
I didn’t expect it to feel like this.
I thought caregiving would be noble… sacred… maybe even beautiful.
But instead, some days feel heavy. Quietly overwhelming.
And if I’m honest…
There are moments I feel invisible.
π The Moment That Changed Me
It was late.
The house was silent except for the slow, uneven breathing of my parent in the next room.
I sat on the edge of my bed, exhausted—physically, emotionally, spiritually.
And I whispered something I was almost ashamed to say:
“God… I don’t think I can do this anymore.”
Have you ever been there?
Loving deeply… but feeling drained
Showing up daily… but feeling unseen
Doing everything… and still feeling like it’s not enough
If that’s you…
I want you to know something right now:
π You are not failing.
π You are not alone.
π And God sees every hidden moment.

π―️ Recognition: “This Is Exactly How I Feel”
Caregiving doesn’t just take time.
It takes pieces of your heart.
You may feel:
Guilty for being tired
Frustrated—and then ashamed for feeling that way
Afraid of what’s coming next
Grieving… even while your loved one is still here
I remember thinking:
“Why didn’t anyone tell me it would feel this lonely?”
But then I read these words from Psalm 34:18:
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
And suddenly…
My exhaustion had a witness.
My pain had a place.
πΏ Relief: “I’m Not Alone”
One morning, after another sleepless night, I opened the Gospels.
Not looking for theology.
Just… survival.
And I found Yeshua.
Not distant. Not detached.
But present in suffering.
Matthew 11:28
“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Not later.
Not when everything is fixed.
Now.
In the middle of:
medication schedules
difficult conversations
repeated questions
emotional fatigue
He says:
π “Come to Me… just as you are.”
✨ What I Didn’t Realize About Caregiving
Somewhere along the way, I believed a quiet lie:
“If I were stronger, this wouldn’t feel so hard.”
But Scripture gently corrected me.
Isaiah 40:29
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
Not the strong.
Not the ones who have it all together.
The weary. The weak. The ones barely holding on.
That means…
➡️ Your exhaustion is not disqualifying
➡️ Your breaking point is not failure
➡️ It’s actually the place where God meets you most deeply
π ️ Support: “This Actually Helps Me in the Moment”
Let me share what has helped me—not perfectly, but practically.
These are the small, sacred rhythms that carry me through:
π 1. One Breath Prayers (When You Have Nothing Left)
Sometimes I can’t pray long prayers.
So I whisper:
“Lord, help me.”
“Give me strength for this hour.”
“Be near.”
And I remember:
Psalm 121:1–2
“I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord…”
Even one breath can reach heaven.
πͺΆ 2. Release the Weight You Were Never Meant to Carry
I had to learn this the hard way.
I am responsible to love—not to control outcomes.
Matthew 6:34
“Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.”
So I started asking:
What is mine to carry today?
What do I need to release to God?
And I let go… little by little.
π€ 3. Let Yourself Feel Without Shame
Even Yeshua wept.
John 11:35
“Jesus wept.”
So I stopped pretending I was okay when I wasn’t.
I let myself:
cry in the car
sit in silence
admit when I felt overwhelmed
And somehow…
That honesty became healing.
π₯ 4. Remember: Your Quiet Service Is Seen
No applause.
No recognition.
But heaven sees.
Genesis 16:13
“You are the God who sees me.”
Every:
meal prepared
hand held
sleepless night endured
Is witnessed by God.
Nothing is wasted.
π 5. Take Rest Without Guilt
This one is hard.
But necessary.
Even God built rest into creation.
Exodus 33:14
“My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
Rest is not selfish.
It’s survival.
π‘ A Truth That Changed Everything
One day, this thought hit me deeply:
“I am not just caring for my parent…
I am walking through a sacred assignment with God.”
Not because it’s easy.
But because:
love is being refined
patience is being stretched
compassion is being deepened
And God is right here in it with me.
π️ When You Feel Like You’re Breaking
If you’re reading this with tears in your eyes…
If you’re barely holding it together…
Let me speak this over you:
You are doing better than you think
Your love is enough for today
God is closer than your next breath
Deuteronomy 31:8
“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”
π€² A Prayer for You (Right Now)
I want to pray with you, right where you are:
“Lord, You see every caregiver reading this.
You see their exhaustion, their love, their hidden sacrifices.
Meet them in this moment.
Strengthen their hands.
Calm their hearts.
Remind them they are not alone.
Be their peace in the chaos…
Their rest in the weariness…
Their hope in the uncertainty.
In Yeshua’s name, amen.”
πΏ You’re Still Standing… And That Matters
If all you did today was:
show up
care a little
keep going
That matters more than you know.
And tomorrow?
You won’t face it alone.
Because the same God who met me in my breaking…
Is meeting you right now.
