Matzah - The Hidden Bread That Breaks Chains (What I Discovered Changed Everything)
Matzah.
I used to think it was just flat bread… a symbol… something we eat because our ancestors did.
But one night, something shifted inside me.
Not in a loud, dramatic way.
Not with thunder or fire.
Quietly.
Almost like a whisper from heaven.
And suddenly… matzah wasn’t just bread anymore.
It was a message.
A warning.
A mirror.
A doorway.
And I realized—I had been carrying Egypt inside me far longer than I thought.
The Night I Realized I Was Still in Egypt
I was sitting at the table, holding a piece of matzah in my hand.
Dry. Pierced. Striped.
And I asked myself a question I couldn’t shake:
“If this represents freedom… why do I still feel bound?”
Have you ever felt that?
You believe in God
You celebrate redemption
You know the story of deliverance
…but something inside still feels stuck?
Still anxious.
Still afraid.
Still enslaved to patterns you thought you left behind.
That night, I realized:
Leaving Egypt physically is one thing.
But letting Egypt leave your heart… is another.
Why Matzah Matters More Than You Think
God didn’t command matzah as a random ritual.
It was intentional.
“You shall eat unleavened bread… for in haste you came out of the land of Egypt.” — Exodus 12:39
But why haste?
Why no time for the dough to rise?
Because leaven—chametz—represents something deeper.
Leaven Represents What Grows Quietly Inside You
Pride
Sin
Hidden compromise
Old mindsets
Emotional baggage
Leaven puffs up.
It expands.
It takes over slowly… until it defines everything.
And God was saying:
“If you’re going to walk in freedom, you can’t carry what inflates your old identity.”
The Moment Yeshua Made It Personal
For years, I understood matzah as a symbol of the Exodus.
But then I read the words of Yeshua differently.
“Beware of the leaven…” — Matthew 16:6
He wasn’t talking about bread.
He was talking about influence.
About what we allow into our hearts.
About what quietly shapes us.
And then it hit me:
Freedom isn’t just about what God brings you out of…
It’s about what you refuse to carry forward.
The Breaking Point (Literally)
During the meal, the matzah is broken.
Not sliced neatly.
Broken.
That used to confuse me.
Until I saw this:
“He was pierced for our transgressions…” — Isaiah 53:5
The matzah is:
Pierced
Striped
Broken
And suddenly, I couldn’t unsee it.
This wasn’t just about Egypt anymore.
This was about redemption through suffering.
Yeshua said:
“This is My body given for you.” — Luke 22:19
And I realized…
Freedom always costs something.
The Problem Most of Us Don’t Talk About
Let me be honest with you.
I didn’t struggle to believe in God.
I struggled to live like I was free.
Because deep down, I was still holding onto:
Old fears
Old wounds
Old identities
I was eating matzah…
But living like I still had leaven.
And that disconnect?
It was exhausting.
What God Showed Me About Real Freedom
That night, I felt like God was gently asking me:
“What are you still allowing to rise in your heart?”
Not in a condemning way.
In a freeing way.
Because you can’t remove what you won’t acknowledge.
So I started asking myself:
Where am I still reacting like I’m in Egypt?
What thoughts keep inflating fear or insecurity?
What habits contradict the freedom I claim?
And slowly… things began to change.
The Power of Choosing Matzah Daily
Matzah isn’t just something we eat once a year.
It’s a lifestyle.
It’s a decision.
Every day, I now choose:
Humility over pride
Truth over deception
Simplicity over performance
Trust over control
Because matzah is simple.
Uncomplicated.
Honest.
It doesn’t pretend to be more than it is.
And maybe that’s the point.
Yeshua’s Invitation Still Stands
Yeshua didn’t just warn about leaven.
He offered something better.
“I am the bread of life…” — John 6:35
Not bread that puffs up.
But bread that sustains.
Not bread that inflates ego.
But bread that nourishes the soul.
And I had to ask myself:
What kind of bread am I living on?
If You Feel Stuck, Read This Slowly
Maybe you’re like I was.
You love God
You honor His Word
You celebrate redemption
…but something still feels off.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
Freedom isn’t automatic.
It’s intentional.
And it starts with removing the leaven.
A Simple but Life-Changing Practice
I want to invite you into something I started doing.
It’s simple—but powerful.
Every day, I ask:
“God, show me any leaven in my heart today.”
And when He does, I don’t run from it.
I bring it into the light.
Because:
“Nothing is hidden that will not be revealed.” — Luke 8:17
And what is revealed… can be healed.
What Happens When You Truly Embrace Matzah
Something shifts.
Not overnight.
But deeply.
You begin to:
Feel lighter
Think clearer
Love deeper
Trust more fully
Because you’re no longer carrying what was never meant to go with you.
Final Thought (This Changed Me)
That night, holding that piece of matzah…
I realized something I’ll never forget:
God didn’t just bring Israel out of Egypt.
He gave them a way to stay free.
Matzah is that way.
A reminder.
A reset.
A return to what is real.
So today, I leave you with this question:
What needs to be removed… so you can finally walk in the freedom God already gave you?
If this spoke to you, don’t just read it.
Sit with it.
Pray through it.
Share it with someone who needs it.
Because freedom isn’t just a story we remember.
It’s a life we’re invited to live.
