Beitzah - The Hidden Egg That Reveals a Redemption You’ve Been Missing
I didn’t expect something so small to confront something so deep.
A simple egg on the Seder plate.
Beitzah.
At first glance, it feels quiet… almost overlooked. No dramatic story like the lamb. No tears like the bitter herbs. No sweetness like the charoset.
But one night, as I sat there staring at it, something inside me whispered:
“Why is this here?”
And that question led me into a journey I didn’t see coming.
🥚 The Silent Symbol We Rarely Talk About
Beitzah—the roasted egg—is traditionally a symbol of:
Mourning (for the destroyed Temple)
A festival offering (chagigah)
The cycle of life and renewal
But here’s what hit me…
Why place a symbol of mourning at a table of freedom?
Why bring grief into a night of redemption?
That tension… is the doorway.
💔 The Problem We Don’t Admit
If I’m honest, I’ve sat at many Passover tables carrying something heavy:
Regret I haven’t let go of
Questions God hasn’t answered
Pain that didn’t leave when I prayed
And I’ve whispered silently:
“God, how can I celebrate when something in me is still broken?”
Maybe you’ve felt that too.
You love God.
You honor the feasts.
You believe in Yeshua.
And yet…
There’s still something unresolved inside you.
🔥 The First Time I Saw It
I remember reading:
“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
And I thought…
“Then why do I feel far from Him in my brokenness?”
That’s when Beitzah began to speak.
🥚 The Egg That Holds a Mystery
An egg is unlike anything else on the Seder plate.
It looks lifeless… yet carries life
It is whole… yet must be broken to release what’s inside
It appears simple… yet holds transformation
And suddenly I saw it:
The Beitzah is a picture of something hidden. Something waiting. Something not yet revealed.
✨ A Pattern Hidden in Scripture
God has always worked through hidden beginnings.
Creation began in darkness before light broke forth (Genesis 1:2–3)
Israel was formed in slavery before becoming a nation
David was anointed in secret before becoming king
And then I read the words of Yeshua:
“Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” — John 12:24
That’s when it hit me.
The Beitzah is not just about mourning. It’s about transformation through what feels like loss.
😢 Why the Egg Is Roasted
This part shook me.
The egg is not raw.
It is not soft.
It is roasted—passed through fire.
And I asked myself:
What in my life has been through fire?
What part of me feels hardened by pain?
What dreams feel “cooked” or finished?
But then I remembered:
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you… when you walk through fire, you shall not be burned.” — Isaiah 43:2
The fire was never meant to destroy you.
It was meant to prepare you.
🕊️ The Moment Everything Connected
At the Seder, the Beitzah sits quietly.
No blessing is spoken over it.
No dramatic explanation.
It’s just… there.
And then I thought of Yeshua standing silently before His accusers.
“He opened not His mouth.” — Isaiah 53:7
“But Jesus remained silent.” — Matthew 26:63
Silence.
Hiddenness.
Mystery.
The same pattern.
💡 The Breakthrough I Didn’t Expect
Here’s the truth that changed everything for me:
God does not remove mourning before redemption.
He transforms mourning through redemption.
The Beitzah doesn’t deny the pain.
It carries it into the presence of deliverance.
🔓 What This Means for You (Right Now)
If you feel stuck…
If something in your life feels unfinished, broken, or confusing…
The Beitzah is speaking to you.
👉 It’s telling you:
Your story is not over
What looks lifeless may still hold life
What has been through fire is not ruined—it’s refined
📖 Yeshua Saw You in This
Yeshua didn’t come for the perfect.
He came for the ones carrying silent burdens.
“Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
Not when you fix yourself.
Not when everything is resolved.
Now. As you are.
🌱 The Hidden Resurrection Pattern
Even in the Hebrew Scriptures, resurrection is whispered:
“He will swallow up death forever, and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces.” — Isaiah 25:8
The egg…
Looks sealed
Looks final
Looks unchangeable
But inside…
There is life waiting to emerge.
🔥 A Personal Question I Had to Answer
That night, I stopped asking:
“Why is this here?”
And started asking:
“What in me is still waiting to break open?”

Where am I carrying hidden sorrow?
What has God allowed me to go through that I don’t understand?
Could it be… that something new is forming inside me?

The Beitzah is not just a symbol of mourning.
It is a quiet declaration:
God is still working in what feels unfinished.
And just like the egg…
You may feel closed, silent, and unchanged on the outside…
…but heaven sees something forming within you.

I bring You the parts of me I don’t understand.
The places that feel silent.
The things that feel like loss.
Teach me to trust You in the hidden places.
Show me the life You are forming within me.
And give me courage to believe…
That even now, You are preparing something beautiful.
