Mikra Kodesh - The Night I Realized I Was Keeping the Commandments - But Missing the Voice of God
I didn’t expect that night to change me.
I thought I was already walking faithfully.
I kept the rhythms.
I honored the feasts.
I spoke the prayers.
But deep inside… something felt quiet. Too quiet.
Not peaceful quiet.
Distant quiet.
And that’s when the question hit me like a whisper I couldn’t ignore:
“What if I’m doing everything right… but missing Him?”
π₯ The Hidden Struggle No One Talks About
Let me say something that might feel uncomfortable—but freeing:
You can love Torah…
You can follow commandments…
You can even believe in Yeshua…
…and still feel disconnected.
I’ve been there.
There was a time I was:
Showing up outwardly
But dry inwardly
Saying the right words
But not hearing His voice
And I didn’t know why.
π When Obedience Becomes Routine Instead of Relationship
Then I came across something Yeshua said that shook me deeply:
“This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.”
— Matthew 15:8
I stopped.
Because that wasn’t written to pagans.
That was spoken to people who knew Scripture.
People like me.
π The Problem
Here’s what I realized:
I was doing the right things
But I had slowly stopped leaning in to hear Him
I had reduced a living relationship…
to a structured routine.
πΏ The Invitation I Almost Missed
Then I heard His voice again through these words:
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
— John 10:27
Not “My sheep perform perfectly.”
Not “My sheep never struggle.”
But:
π They hear Me.
That’s when it broke me.
Because I realized…
I wasn’t listening anymore.
π️ The Pattern Hidden in the Torah
I went back to the beginning—to what we’ve always known.
At Sinai, something powerful happened:
“Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant…”
— Exodus 19:5
Did you catch that?
Not just keep commandments.
But:
π “Obey My voice.”
⚡ The Order Matters
God didn’t say:
Keep rules
Then maybe hear Me
He said:
Hear My voice
Then walk in covenant
π’ Where We Drift Without Realizing
Here’s how it happened for me—and maybe for you too:
I replaced listening with checking boxes
I replaced intimacy with information
I replaced relationship with routine
And slowly…
The fire became memory.
π₯ Yeshua’s Wake-Up Call
Then I read this, and it pierced me:
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven… but the one who does the will of My Father.”
— Matthew 7:21
And then even more sobering:
“I never knew you.”
— Matthew 7:23
Not “you didn’t know Torah.”
Not “you didn’t do enough.”
But:
π “I never knew you.”
This is about relationship.
π§ So How Do We Find Our Way Back?
I had to ask myself:
How do I return to a living, breathing connection with Him?
Here’s what I discovered—step by step.
π 1. Slow Down Enough to Hear
God is still speaking.
But we are often moving too fast.
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10
Not:
Be busy
Be productive
Be perfect
But:
π Be still
πΏ 2. Return to Childlike Listening
Yeshua said:
“Let the little children come to Me…”
— Matthew 19:14
Children don’t overcomplicate.
They:
Listen closely
Trust quickly
Respond honestly
That’s the posture He’s looking for.
π 3. Stop Performing—Start Responding
This changed everything for me.
Instead of asking:
❌ “Am I doing enough?”
I began asking:
✅ “What is He saying right now?”
π₯ 4. Let Love Be the Motivation Again
I remembered this:
“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart…”
— Deuteronomy 6:5
And Yeshua confirmed:
“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”
— John 14:15
Did you notice?
π Love comes first.
Not pressure.
Not fear.
Not obligation.
π‘ The Breakthrough Moment
I remember sitting quietly one morning.
No agenda.
No checklist.
Just… listening.
And for the first time in a long time…
I felt His presence again.
Not loud.
Not dramatic.
But real.
π️ What I Heard Changed Me
It wasn’t complicated.
It was simple:
π “I never asked you to carry this alone.”
I had been trying to prove my faithfulness…
Instead of walking with Him.
π The Shift That Restores Everything
When we return to hearing Him:
Torah comes alive again
Prayer becomes conversation
Obedience becomes joyful
Identity becomes secure
π₯ A Question for You (Don’t Skip This)
Be honest with yourself:
Are you hearing His voice…
Or just maintaining spiritual habits?
There is no shame in the answer.
Only invitation.
πΏ A Simple Practice to Start Today
Try this—just once today:
Sit in silence for 5 minutes
Breathe slowly
Whisper: “Speak, Lord, I am listening.”
Don’t force anything
Just be present
And trust that He will meet you.
✨ Final Truth You Need to Hold Onto
You are not called to:
Perform perfectly
Earn His closeness
Impress Him
You are called to:
π Know Him.
❤️ Closing Prayer (From My Heart to Yours)
“Abba,
I don’t want to just go through the motions anymore.
I don’t want to miss Your voice while doing Your work.
Teach me to hear You again.
Slow me down.
Draw me close.
Let my obedience flow from love…
And let my life reflect relationship, not routine.
In Yeshua’s name, Amen.”
π₯ If This Stirred Something in You…
Don’t ignore it.
That pull you feel?
That’s Him.
Calling you back—not to religion…
…but to relationship.
