Shabbat Bread Blessing Prayer / HaMotzi | Hebrew, Transliteration, English

Here is the traditional Shabbat Bread Blessing / HaMotzi said over the challah:

English:

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who brings forth bread from the earth.

Hebrew:

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, הַמּוֹצִיא לֶחֶם מִן הָאָרֶץ

Transliteration:

Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech ha’olam, haMotzi lechem min ha’aretz.

Common Shabbat Practice:

Before saying the blessing, many families place two covered challot (plural of challah) on the table, symbolizing the double portion of manna given before Shabbat in the wilderness (Exodus 16). After the blessing, the bread is cut or torn, dipped in salt, and shared.
