Havdalah Spice Blend
A traditional Havdalah spice blend is fragrant, warming, and uplifting. It is used during the Havdalah ceremony at the close of Shabbat.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons whole cloves
2 tablespoons cinnamon chips or broken cinnamon sticks
1 tablespoon dried orange peel
1 tablespoon cardamom pods
1 teaspoon whole allspice berries
1 teaspoon dried lavender buds (optional)
Instructions
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.
Lightly crush the spices with a mortar and pestle to release their aroma.
Transfer to a decorative spice box or airtight container.
Allow the blend to rest for 24 hours before use for the best fragrance.
Serving for Havdalah
Place a small amount in a besamim (spice) container.
During Havdalah, pass the spices around so everyone can enjoy their sweet aroma.
Variation
For a sweeter scent, add:
1 teaspoon dried rose petals
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
This blend makes a thoughtful homemade gift for Shabbat hosts, Jewish holidays, or family celebrations. ✨
