I know what it feels like to stand in front of an unfamiliar door and wonder, “God, is this You?”

Sometimes I pray for a new beginning, and then when something actually begins to change, I suddenly become nervous.

What if I make the wrong decision?
What if this isn't God's timing?
What if I walk through the door and regret it?

I've learned that a new door doesn't always look like what I expected.

Sometimes God opens a door by changing my circumstances. Sometimes He introduces a new opportunity, relationship, assignment, or direction. And sometimes He simply gives me the courage to leave behind something that I have already outgrown.

Isaiah 43:19 reminds me that God specializes in doing new things.

He can make a road where I see no path.

He can bring rivers into places that look completely dry.

So if I am standing at the threshold of something unfamiliar, I don't have to panic. I can pause, pray, seek wisdom, and pay attention.

I don't have to force a door open.

I don't have to manipulate circumstances.

I don't have to run ahead of God because I'm afraid the opportunity will disappear.

If God is truly making a way, He is fully capable of leading me through it.

Perhaps the question isn't simply, “God, is this the door?”

Perhaps I should also ask:

“Am I willing to trust You enough to walk through it when You make the way clear?”

A new door can be exciting and frightening at the same time.

But I can remember this:

God doesn't need a familiar path to lead me into a new season.

When I cannot see the road, I can trust the One who can create one.

3. Don't be afraid of unfamiliar territory.
A wilderness is unfamiliar by definition. Yet Isaiah reminds me that God can make a road through it. I don't need to know every step before taking the next faithful one.

Father,

I come before You with an open heart.

If You are doing a new thing in my life, help me recognize it. Give me wisdom to distinguish Your direction from my own desires, fears, and assumptions.

When You open a door, give me courage to walk through it.

When You tell me to wait, give me patience.

When a door closes, help me trust that You are still leading me.

I don't want to run ahead of You, and I don't want fear to keep me from following You.

Make a road in the wilderness before me and bring rivers into the dry places of my life.

Help me trust You even when I cannot see the entire path.

I believe You are able to do something new.

So I surrender my plans, my expectations, and my timeline to You.

Lead me, and I will follow.
