I Never Expected a Locked Public Bathroom to Teach Me Something About the Proverbs 31 Woman
The Bathroom Was Locked - And I Really Had To Go
I wasn't expecting a spiritual lesson that day.
Honestly, I was just trying to find a bathroom.
You know what I mean.
That moment when you realize you really need to go, you finally find a public restroom, walk toward the door with relief…
…and discover it's LOCKED.
π³
I stood there thinking:
“Seriously?”
For a few seconds, frustration started rising.
I could have panicked.
I could have become angry.
I could have complained.
I could have let embarrassment take over.
But then another thought came to me:
What would a Proverbs 31 woman do right now?
Not in theory.
Not in a Bible study.
Not in a beautiful devotional moment with a cup of tea beside her Bible.
Right here.
Right now.
With a locked bathroom door.
And that's when I realized something.
GODLY WOMANHOOD IS TESTED IN ORDINARY MOMENTS
We often imagine the Proverbs 31 woman as someone who has everything together.
She's productive.
She's wise.
She's generous.
She's strong.
She's prepared.
She's respected.
She manages her household.
She makes wise decisions.
She cares for others.
And sometimes, if I'm being completely honest, reading Proverbs 31 can make me think:
“How am I ever going to become THAT woman?”
But then I remember:
The Proverbs 31 woman wasn't described as someone who lived in a world without problems.
She lived in the real world.
And real life includes interruptions.
Unexpected situations.
Disappointments.
Delays.
Difficult people.
Unexpected expenses.
Exhaustion.
Decisions.
Responsibilities.
And yes…
Locked bathroom doors. π
The question isn't whether something inconvenient will happen.
The question is:
How will I respond when it does?
THE PROVERBS 31 WOMAN DOESN'T PANIC—SHE USES WISDOM
Proverbs tells us:
“She opens her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.”
— Proverbs 31:26
Wisdom.
Kindness.
Those two qualities suddenly became very practical.
Instead of standing there becoming increasingly frustrated, I could simply look for another option.
I could ask someone.
I could find another location.
I could make a different plan.
I could solve the problem without losing my composure.
And isn't that what godly womanhood often looks like?
Not dramatic.
Not glamorous.
Not Instagram-perfect.
Just wise.
SOMETIMES BEING A GODLY WOMAN LOOKS LIKE ASKING FOR HELP
I've noticed something about myself.
Sometimes I'd rather struggle quietly than admit I need assistance.
Maybe you can relate.
We don't want to bother anyone.
We don't want to look helpless.
We don't want to explain ourselves.
We don't want somebody thinking we're incapable.
But wisdom recognizes limitations.
Proverbs says:
“The simple believes every word: but the prudent man looks well to his going.”
— Proverbs 14:15
A prudent woman pays attention.
She observes.
She evaluates.
She thinks ahead.
She takes appropriate action.
That's different from panic.
And it's different from pretending everything is fine.
I DON'T HAVE TO LOSE MY DIGNITY JUST BECAUSE I'M UNCOMFORTABLE
This is something I wish more women talked about.
Sometimes discomfort makes us behave differently than we normally would.
We become impatient.
We become reactive.
We say things we regret.
We compromise boundaries.
We make decisions based on embarrassment.
But being uncomfortable doesn't mean I have to stop being wise.
I can be urgent without being rude.
I can be assertive without being disrespectful.
I can ask for help without feeling ashamed.
I can protect my dignity while solving the problem.
And I can remember that my value doesn't disappear simply because I'm having an awkward day.
Proverbs 31 says:
“Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.”
— Proverbs 31:25
Strength and honor.
That's what I want to wear—not just when everything is going well, but when things aren't going according to plan.
WHAT DOES YESHUA HAVE TO DO WITH A LOCKED BATHROOM?
More than I initially thought.
Yeshua taught:
“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”
— Matthew 12:34
Unexpected situations reveal what's inside us.
A locked door can reveal impatience.
A long line can reveal selfishness.
A difficult person can reveal anger.
An inconvenience can reveal anxiety.
A disappointment can reveal whether I actually trust HaShem.
That's why ordinary moments matter.
They give me opportunities to practice what I say I believe.
I CAN PRAY AND MAKE A PLAN
This is one of the most important lessons I keep coming back to.
Faith doesn't mean refusing to think practically.
I can pray:
“HaShem, please help me.”
And then I can look for another bathroom.
I can trust God.
And I can ask someone for directions.
I can believe He is my provider.
And I can prepare wisely.
I can seek His guidance.
And I can take the next responsible step.
Proverbs says:
“The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness.”
— Proverbs 21:5
Faith and practical wisdom don't have to compete.
They can work together.
AND SOMETIMES… I JUST HAVE TO LAUGH π
Let's be honest.
There are moments when life becomes so ridiculous that laughing is better than losing my mind.
The bathroom is locked.
I'm uncomfortable.
I'm trying to remain dignified.
I'm looking around wondering where the nearest alternative is.
And suddenly I'm thinking:
“Lord, surely this is not the spiritual warfare lesson You had planned for me today.” π
But maybe it is.
Maybe spiritual growth doesn't always happen during dramatic moments.
Maybe it happens while I'm learning patience in a parking lot.
Maybe it happens while I'm waiting in a long line.
Maybe it happens when someone is rude.
Maybe it happens when my plans change.
Maybe it happens when I'm tired.
Maybe it happens when I'm embarrassed.
Maybe it happens when the door I expected to open…
doesn't open.
THAT'S WHY I CREATED MY 30-DAY PROVERBS 31 DEVOTIONAL
“30 Day Proverbs 31 Devotional - A Journey Into Godly Womanhood”
I didn't want to create another devotional that simply tells women:
“Be a Proverbs 31 woman.”
I wanted to create something that invites us to actually journey into godly womanhood.
Because I'm still learning too.
I'm still growing.
I'm still discovering where I need more wisdom.
I'm still learning how to respond instead of react.
I'm still learning how to trust HaShem when circumstances don't make sense.
And I know I'm not the only woman who feels that way.
Maybe you've looked at Proverbs 31 and thought:
“I want to become that kind of woman, but where do I even begin?”
That's where this 30-day journey begins.
30 DAYS.
30 DAYS OF PAUSING.
30 DAYS OF REFLECTING.
30 DAYS OF LOOKING AT GODLY WOMANHOOD THROUGH A BIBLICAL LENS.
30 DAYS OF ASKING:
“What does this look like in my actual life?”
Not somebody else's life.
Mine.
My home.
My relationships.
My decisions.
My responsibilities.
My conversations.
My challenges.
My disappointments.
My faith.
My relationship with HaShem.
THIS DEVOTIONAL IS FOR THE WOMAN WHO…
- Wants to grow closer to God.
- Desires to understand Proverbs 31 more deeply.
- Wants practical encouragement for everyday life.
- Is trying to become wiser in her decisions.
- Wants to cultivate strength and dignity.
- Wants to grow in kindness and compassion.
- Is learning to respond to difficult circumstances with wisdom.
- Wants biblical encouragement without pretending life is perfect.
- Is navigating seasons of change.
- Wants to become more intentional about her spiritual growth.
- Wants to explore what godly womanhood looks like beyond appearances.
And maybe…
It's for the woman who has ever stood outside a locked public bathroom thinking:
“Okay, Lord. What do I do now?” π
Because sometimes that's where the journey begins.
A 30-DAY JOURNEY INTO THE WOMAN GOD IS CALLING YOU TO BECOME
I don't want this devotional to make you feel like you have another impossible standard to achieve.
I want it to give you a place to slow down.
To reflect.
To pray.
To examine your heart.
To learn.
To grow.
To recognize areas where HaShem may be inviting you into greater wisdom.
Because Proverbs 31 says:
“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.”
— Proverbs 31:10
A woman's value isn't measured by perfection.
Her worth isn't determined by whether she handled every situation flawlessly.
Godly womanhood is a journey.
And journeys happen one step at a time.
WHAT IF THE NEXT 30 DAYS COULD CHANGE THE WAY YOU SEE YOURSELF?
What if you stopped asking:
“Why can't I be more like her?”
And started asking:
“What can HaShem teach me through her example?”
What if instead of comparing yourself with an imaginary perfect woman, you began allowing Scripture to shape the woman you are becoming?
What if your ordinary days became opportunities for spiritual formation?
What if your frustrations became invitations to practice patience?
What if your difficult conversations became opportunities to practice kindness?
What if your decisions became opportunities to practice wisdom?
What if your responsibilities became opportunities to practice diligence?
What if your struggles became places where your trust in HaShem grew deeper?
That's the journey I want to explore.
GODLY WOMANHOOD ISN'T ABOUT LOOKING PERFECT
I've come to believe that one of the greatest dangers is confusing appearance with character.
A woman can look polished and still be struggling internally.
She can have beautiful things and still lack peace.
She can know Scripture and still need to grow in wisdom.
She can serve everyone else and forget to slow down before HaShem.
The Proverbs 31 woman points us deeper.
Toward character.
Toward wisdom.
Toward diligence.
Toward generosity.
Toward strength.
Toward honor.
Toward reverence for HaShem.
And that is much more beautiful than perfection.
WHAT IF YOUR “LOCKED DOOR” IS TEACHING YOU SOMETHING?
Maybe your locked door isn't a bathroom.
Maybe it's a relationship.
Maybe it's an opportunity.
Maybe it's a plan that didn't work.
Maybe it's a season you didn't choose.
Maybe it's a prayer you're still waiting to see answered.
Maybe it's something you thought would happen by now.
And you're standing there thinking:
“Why won't this door open?”
I know that feeling.
But perhaps the next question isn't:
“How do I force this door open?”
Perhaps the question is:
“HaShem, what wisdom do You want me to learn while I'm standing here?”
That's a very different question.
And sometimes a better one.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO BECOME A DIFFERENT WOMAN OVERNIGHT
You don't have to wake up tomorrow with everything figured out.
You don't have to suddenly become perfectly organized.
You don't have to master every biblical principle.
You don't have to stop making mistakes.
You don't have to have the perfect prayer life.
You don't have to become someone you're not.
You simply have to be willing to grow.
One day.
One lesson.
One prayer.
One decision.
One step.
That's why I love the idea of a 30-day journey.
Because transformation can begin with something as simple as saying:
“For the next 30 days, I'm going to intentionally seek Godly wisdom.”
COME JOURNEY WITH ME ❤️
I've created:
