Pulling Down the High Peaks of Spiritual Pride - Spiritual Warfare Prayer
Avinu Malkeinu, my Heavenly Father,
Hashem, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
the Holy One of Israel,
the One who dwells in eternity and whose name is holy—
I come before You in humility.
I come before You not claiming my own righteousness, not trusting in my own strength, not boasting in my own wisdom, and not exalting myself before You.
I come as Your servant.
I come as Your creation before my Creator.
I come as a vessel before the Potter.
I come as a sheep before the Shepherd.
I come as a child before my Father.
I bow my heart before You, Hashem.
Your Word declares:
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God.”
—1 Peter 5:6
But because I am limiting this prayer to the Tanakh and the Gospels, I receive the same principle from the words of Yeshua:
“Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
—Matthew 23:12
Father, teach me this humility.
Not superficial humility.
Not religious performance.
Not humility that seeks applause.
Not humility that secretly desires recognition.
Not humility that merely changes my words while leaving pride enthroned in my heart.
Give me radical humility.
Give me humility that reaches into the deepest chambers of my soul.
Give me humility that bows when my flesh wants to stand.
Give me humility that listens when my ego wants to speak.
Give me humility that repents when my pride wants to justify itself.
Give me humility that submits when my will wants to rule.
Give me humility that gives You the glory when I am tempted to take the credit.
Give me humility that says, “Not my will, but Yours.”
I Bow Before Hashem
Hashem, You alone are God.
You are not one power among many powers.
You are not competing for supremacy.
You are the Sovereign.
You are the King.
You are the Creator of heaven and earth.
Your Word declares:
“Hear, O Israel: Hashem our God, Hashem is one.”
—Deuteronomy 6:4
Therefore I reject every false throne within me.
I reject every inner high place that attempts to compete with Your authority.
I reject the elevation of self above obedience.
I reject the worship of reputation.
I reject the worship of achievement.
I reject the worship of human approval.
I reject the worship of intellect.
I reject the worship of influence.
I reject the worship of control.
I reject the worship of recognition.
I reject every attitude that says, consciously or unconsciously, “I know better than God.”
Hashem, You are God and I am not.
You are the Potter and I am the clay.
Your prophet Isaiah declares:
“Woe to him who strives with his Maker, an earthen vessel among the earthen vessels!”
—Isaiah 45:9
Therefore I surrender.
I surrender my plans.
I surrender my reputation.
I surrender my ambitions.
I surrender my desire to be noticed.
I surrender my desire to be praised.
I surrender my need to win every argument.
I surrender my desire to control every outcome.
I surrender my insistence upon having everything my way.
I surrender my secret desire to be above correction.
I surrender my resistance to instruction.
I surrender my fear of appearing weak.
I surrender my pride.
Hashem, bring me low enough that You can build me up rightly.
Father, Search the High Places of My Heart
O God of Israel, search me.
Expose what I cannot see.
Reveal what I have hidden from myself.
Show me the places where pride has established itself.
Your servant David prayed:
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
—Psalm 139:23–24
I make that prayer my own.
Search my heart.
Search my motives.
Search my ambitions.
Search my imagination.
Search my desires.
Search my words.
Search my relationships.
Search my decisions.
Search the reasons behind the things I do.
If I perform righteousness to be admired, expose it.
If I serve so that others will praise me, expose it.
If I pray so that others will think I am spiritual, expose it.
If I speak about You while secretly seeking glory for myself, expose it.
If I use spiritual language to conceal pride, expose it.
If I use knowledge of Scripture to elevate myself over others, expose it.
If I mistake biblical knowledge for spiritual maturity, correct me.
If I mistake religious activity for obedience, correct me.
If I mistake confidence for self-exaltation, correct me.
If I mistake boldness for arrogance, correct me.
If I mistake authority for superiority, correct me.
If I mistake discernment for permission to condemn everyone around me, correct me.
If I mistake zeal for holiness, correct me.
Father, tear down every high peak within me that competes with Your throne.
Pull Down the High Peaks of Pride
Hashem, Your Word repeatedly warns me about the danger of exaltation.
You declared through Moses:
“Beware lest you forget Hashem your God... lest when you have eaten and are full... then your heart be lifted up, and you forget Hashem your God.”
—Deuteronomy 8:11–14
Father, do not allow blessing to make me forget the Blesser.
Do not allow increase to make me forget the One who increased me.
Do not allow knowledge to make me forget the Teacher.
Do not allow influence to make me forget the King.
Do not allow spiritual experiences to make me forget obedience.
Do not allow answered prayers to make me believe I am self-sufficient.
Do not allow success to create a high place in my heart.
Do not allow recognition to become an idol.
Do not allow achievement to become an altar.
Do not allow my gifts to become objects of worship.
Let every blessing lead me closer to You.
Let every victory produce thanksgiving.
Let every accomplishment produce humility.
Let every opportunity produce service.
Let every position produce responsibility.
Let every spiritual gift produce greater dependence upon You.
Hashem, Teach Me to Fear You
Father, establish holy reverence within me.
Your Word says:
“The fear of Hashem is the beginning of wisdom.”
—Proverbs 9:10
Give me this holy fear.
Let me fear displeasing You more than I fear disappointing people.
Let me fear sin more than I fear rejection.
Let me fear dishonoring Your name more than I fear losing reputation.
Let me desire Your approval above human applause.
Let me remember that You see what people cannot see.
You know what I say publicly.
You know what I say privately.
You know what I think.
You know what I desire.
You know what motivates me.
Nothing is hidden from You.
Therefore make me a person of integrity.
Make me the same person in secret that I appear to be in public.
Destroy hypocrisy in me.
Destroy spiritual pretension in me.
Destroy religious vanity in me.
Destroy the craving to appear impressive.
Teach me the quiet strength of obedience.
Yeshua, Teach Me Your Way of Humility
Yeshua, I look to Your words.
You said:
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
—Matthew 11:28
And You said:
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart.”
—Matthew 11:29
Teach me Your way.
Teach me gentleness.
Teach me lowliness of heart.
Teach me submission.
Teach me obedience.
Teach me servant-heartedness.
Teach me to become smaller in my own eyes so that my Father becomes greater in my life.
You warned against seeking the highest seats and public honor.
You taught that greatness in the Kingdom is connected with servanthood.
You said:
“Whoever would be great among you must be your servant.”
—Matthew 20:26
Therefore, Father, make me a servant.
When I want recognition, teach me service.
When I want the highest place, teach me to take the lower place.
When I want others to notice me, teach me to notice others.
When I want to be honored, teach me to honor.
When I want to be served, teach me to serve.
When I want to speak first, teach me to listen.
When I want to prove myself, teach me to trust You.
When I want to defend my reputation, teach me to entrust my reputation to You.
Father, Deliver Me From Spiritual Pride
Hashem, spiritual pride is especially dangerous because it can disguise itself as righteousness.
Therefore I ask You to expose every counterfeit humility.
Do not allow me to become proud of being humble.
Do not allow me to boast about my obedience.
Do not allow me to become arrogant about my spiritual knowledge.
Do not allow me to look down upon someone because I believe I understand something they do not.
Do not allow revelation to become superiority.
Do not allow discernment to become contempt.
Do not allow holiness to become self-righteousness.
Do not allow separation from sin to become separation from compassion.
Your prophet Micah declares:
“It has been told you, O man, what is good; and what does Hashem require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
—Micah 6:8
Father, let this become the pattern of my life.
Let me do justice.
Let me love kindness.
Let me walk humbly with You.
Not occasionally.
Not ceremonially.
Not only when people are watching.
But continually.
I Renounce Self-Exaltation
In the presence of Hashem, I renounce self-exaltation.
I renounce the desire to build my own tower of greatness.
I renounce the desire to make my name greater than Your name.
I remember Babel.
Human beings said:
“Let us build ourselves a city and a tower... and let us make a name for ourselves.”
—Genesis 11:4
Father, expose every “make a name for myself” impulse in me.
Whenever my heart says, “Look at me,” teach me to say, “Look to Hashem.”
Whenever my heart says, “Notice me,” teach me to say, “May the Father be glorified.”
Whenever my heart says, “Honor me,” teach me to say, “All honor belongs to You.”
Whenever my heart says, “I built this,” remind me that every ability, opportunity, breath, and resource ultimately comes from You.
Let my life become a testimony rather than a monument to myself.
Let the Fire of God Purify My Pride
Holy Father, I ask for Your refining fire.
Let Your fire consume what is contrary to Your holiness.
Let Your fire burn away arrogance.
Let Your fire burn away vanity.
Let Your fire burn away self-righteousness.
Let Your fire burn away stubbornness.
Let Your fire burn away the craving for applause.
Let Your fire burn away secret competition.
Let Your fire burn away jealousy.
Let Your fire burn away the desire to be superior.
Let Your fire burn away every spiritual attitude that exalts itself against Your truth.
Your Word declares:
“For Hashem your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.”
—Deuteronomy 4:24
I do not ask Your fire merely to destroy what is outside me.
I ask Your refining work to reach inside me.
Burn away what does not belong.
Refine my motives.
Purify my speech.
Purify my imagination.
Purify my ambitions.
Purify my relationships.
Purify my worship.
Purify my service.
Purify my understanding.
Purify my leadership.
Purify my prayer.
Purify my heart.
Let the fire leave behind what is pleasing to You.
I Hide Beneath the Shield of Yeshua's Blood
Father, I place my trust in Your mercy.
I take refuge beneath the saving work represented in my faith by the blood of Yeshua.
I do not place confidence in my own righteousness.
I do not claim that my discipline makes me worthy.
I do not claim that my spiritual warfare makes me superior.
I do not claim that my prayers make me powerful apart from You.
I do not claim victory as though it originated in me.
My confidence is in Your mercy and in the salvation You have provided.
Yeshua taught:
“This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.”
—Mark 14:24
Therefore, Father, let the blood of Yeshua remind me of covenant mercy, surrender, sacrifice, and obedience.
Let it humble me.
Let it remind me that I cannot save myself.
Let it remind me that I am dependent upon You.
Let it silence boasting.
Let it destroy spiritual pride.
Let it teach me gratitude.
Let me never use the language of spiritual warfare to exalt myself.
Let me never imagine that spiritual authority makes me independent of You.
Let every victory drive me deeper into dependence upon Hashem.
I Submit Myself to God
Father, I submit myself to You.
I surrender my will.
I surrender my plans.
I surrender my timetable.
I surrender my expectations.
I surrender my need for control.
I surrender my insistence on understanding everything before I obey.
I surrender my demand for recognition.
I surrender my desire to be right at all costs.
I surrender my resistance to correction.
I surrender my pride.
Yeshua taught:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
—Matthew 7:21
Therefore, Father, make me a doer of Your will.
Do not let me merely speak about obedience.
Make me obedient.
Do not let me merely speak about humility.
Make me humble.
Do not let me merely speak about surrender.
Make me surrendered.
Do not let me merely speak about holiness.
Make me holy.
Do not let me merely speak about Your Kingdom.
Make me a servant of Your Kingdom.
I Refuse to Build High Places Again
Father, if I tear down a high place today, do not let me rebuild it tomorrow.
If I repent of pride, preserve me in humility.
If You expose arrogance, help me resist its return.
If You reveal an idol, keep me from replacing it with another idol.
If You humble me, teach me to remain teachable.
Let me never become proud because I survived a season of pride.
Let me never become self-righteous because You delivered me from sin.
Let me never condemn someone struggling with something from which You have delivered me.
Let me remember where I came from.
Let me remember Your mercy.
Let me remember Your patience.
Let me remember Your correction.
Let me remember Your forgiveness.
Let me remember that everything I have is ultimately received.
Father, Break the Desire for the Highest Place
Yeshua taught:
“When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor.”
—Luke 14:8
Father, teach me this principle spiritually.
When I am overlooked, let me remain peaceful.
When someone else receives recognition, let me rejoice without jealousy.
When someone else succeeds, let me celebrate without comparing myself.
When someone else receives an opportunity I wanted, teach me contentment.
When someone else is praised, let me resist the temptation to diminish them.
When someone else is elevated, let me remember that my worth does not depend upon occupying the highest place.
Your Word says:
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
—Proverbs 16:18
Therefore, Father, protect me from the path of pride.
If I begin climbing toward self-exaltation, stop me.
If necessary, humble me.
If necessary, correct me.
If necessary, close a door.
If necessary, remove an opportunity.
If necessary, expose what must be exposed.
I would rather be humbled by You than exalted by people and separated from Your will.
Give Me the Humility of the Servant
Isaiah speaks of the servant who does not exalt himself.
Teach me servant-heartedness.
Let me serve without demanding applause.
Let me give without demanding repayment.
Let me pray without demanding recognition.
Let me labor without demanding a title.
Let me obey without demanding explanation.
Let me forgive without demanding admiration.
Let me love without demanding control.
Let me bless without demanding acknowledgment.
Let me become useful in Your hands rather than impressive in the eyes of people.
Father, make my life fruitful even when nobody sees it.
Teach me the holiness of hidden obedience.
Teach me the value of secret prayer.
Teach me the beauty of unseen service.
Teach me to remember that You see what human beings do not see.
Guard Me From Religious Pride
Father, protect me from becoming proud because I know Scripture.
Protect me from becoming proud because I pray.
Protect me from becoming proud because I fast.
Protect me from becoming proud because I understand Hebrew terminology.
Protect me from becoming proud because I understand biblical history.
Protect me from becoming proud because I know Messianic Jewish theology.
Protect me from becoming proud because I can identify error.
Protect me from becoming proud because I have experienced spiritual warfare.
Protect me from becoming proud because others ask me for counsel.
Protect me from becoming proud because I have endured hardship.
Protect me from becoming proud because You have answered my prayers.
Let every spiritual privilege increase my responsibility rather than my arrogance.
Yeshua said:
“Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required.”
—Luke 12:48
Therefore, Father, let greater revelation produce greater obedience.
Let greater knowledge produce greater humility.
Let greater responsibility produce greater faithfulness.
Let greater influence produce greater servanthood.
Let greater blessing produce greater generosity.
I Bring Every Inner High Place Before Hashem
Father, I bring You every mountain of pride.
Every mountain of self-importance.
Every mountain of stubbornness.
Every mountain of independence.
Every mountain of vanity.
Every mountain of superiority.
Every mountain of comparison.
Every mountain of resentment.
Every mountain of defensiveness.
Every mountain of control.
Every mountain of insecurity that disguises itself as arrogance.
Every mountain of fear that causes me to manipulate.
Every mountain of wounded pride.
Every mountain of entitlement.
Every mountain of spiritual ambition.
Every mountain of human approval.
I bring them before You.
Your prophet Isaiah declared:
“Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill shall be made low.”
—Isaiah 40:4
Father, make the mountains low.
Make the valleys level.
Straighten what is crooked.
Soften what is hardened.
Correct what is distorted.
Bring my heart into alignment with Your will.
Hashem, Let My Worship Be Pure
I do not want worship that glorifies me.
I want worship that glorifies You.
I do not want prayer that magnifies my spirituality.
I want prayer that magnifies Your holiness.
I do not want ministry that builds my name.
I want service that magnifies Your name.
I do not want spiritual warfare that makes me feel powerful.
I want obedience that makes Your authority visible.
Let my worship point upward.
Let my life point toward You.
Let my testimony point toward Your mercy.
Let my victories point toward Your faithfulness.
Let my failures point toward Your patience.
Let my repentance point toward Your holiness.
Let my entire life become an altar of thanksgiving.
Father, Let Your Kingdom Expand Through Yeshua
Heavenly Father, glorify Your name.
Let Your Kingdom advance through Yeshua.
Let Your truth spread.
Let people turn from idols to You.
Let hearts turn from pride to humility.
Let the rebellious become obedient.
Let the spiritually blind receive understanding.
Let the broken find mercy.
Let the oppressed find freedom.
Let those trapped in false worship turn toward the living God.
Let families experience reconciliation.
Let communities experience righteousness.
Let Your name be honored among the nations.
Yeshua taught us to pray:
“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
—Matthew 6:10
So I pray:
Your Kingdom come.
Your will be done.
Your name be sanctified.
Your glory be revealed.
Your righteousness be established.
Your mercy be proclaimed.
Your truth be honored.
And let me never confuse the expansion of Your Kingdom with the expansion of my own name.
I Lay Down My Crown
Father, whatever crown I have tried to place upon my own head, I lay it down.
Whatever title I have used to elevate myself, I lay it down.
Whatever identity I have used to feel superior, I lay it down.
Whatever achievement I have used as proof of my worth, I lay it down.
Whatever spiritual accomplishment I have turned into a source of pride, I lay it down.
Whatever human approval I have treasured above Your approval, I lay it down.
I lay it all before You.
You are King.
You are Lord.
You are Holy.
You are worthy.
You are exalted.
I am not the center.
You are.
My reputation is not the center.
Your name is.
My achievement is not the center.
Your Kingdom is.
My comfort is not the center.
Your will is.
My glory is not the center.
Your glory is.
Give Me a Broken and Contrite Heart
Hashem, I remember the words of David:
“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.”
—Psalm 51:17
Give me such a heart.
Not a defeated heart.
Not a hopeless heart.
Not a self-hating heart.
But a heart that is surrendered.
A heart that is teachable.
A heart that can repent.
A heart that can receive correction.
A heart that can acknowledge weakness.
A heart that can say, “I was wrong.”
A heart that can say, “Forgive me.”
A heart that can say, “Teach me.”
A heart that can say, “Change me.”
A heart that can say, “Your will be done.”
Father, Teach Me to Walk in the Opposite Spirit
When pride rises, let humility rise higher.
When arrogance speaks, let obedience answer.
When self-exaltation demands attention, let service respond.
When comparison begins, let gratitude respond.
When jealousy appears, let blessing respond.
When resentment rises, let forgiveness respond.
When control tightens its grip, let surrender respond.
When fear makes me defensive, let trust respond.
When I want to be first, let me remember Your teaching about becoming a servant.
When I want the highest place, let me willingly take the lower place.
When I want to be recognized, let me remember that You see.
When I want to boast, let me remember that every good gift ultimately comes from You.
Let Humility Become My Spiritual Warfare
Father, teach me that humility is not weakness.
Humility is surrender to Your authority.
Humility is refusing to compete with God.
Humility is refusing to enthrone myself.
Humility is obedience.
Humility is truth.
Humility is recognizing who You are and who I am before You.
Therefore, when I encounter the “high peaks” of pride, I will not answer pride with greater pride.
I will not answer arrogance with arrogance.
I will not fight self-exaltation by exalting myself.
Instead, I will bow.
I will pray.
I will repent.
I will obey.
I will forgive.
I will serve.
I will submit.
I will trust Hashem.
I will place myself beneath Your mighty hand.
And I will allow You to be God.
My Declaration of Surrender
Today I declare before Hashem:
I belong to You.
My body belongs to You.
My mind belongs to You.
My heart belongs to You.
My gifts belong to You.
My opportunities belong to You.
My resources belong to You.
My future belongs to You.
My reputation belongs to You.
My ministry belongs to You.
My relationships belong to You.
My victories belong to You.
My testimony belongs to You.
My life belongs to You.
I will not build a throne for myself.
I will not build an altar to my ego.
I will not build a monument to my accomplishments.
I will not seek glory that belongs to You.
Hashem, You alone are worthy.
A Final Cry for Humility
Father, humble me without destroying me.
Correct me without abandoning me.
Discipline me without allowing me to become bitter.
Expose me without allowing shame to consume me.
Refine me without allowing me to harden.
Break my pride without breaking my hope.
Remove my self-exaltation and replace it with worship.
Remove arrogance and replace it with wisdom.
Remove stubbornness and replace it with teachability.
Remove vanity and replace it with faithfulness.
Remove the hunger for applause and replace it with the desire to please You.
Remove spiritual competition and replace it with love.
Remove self-reliance and replace it with dependence upon You.
Remove the desire to sit on the highest peak and teach me to kneel at Your feet.
Father, Be Glorified
Avinu Malkeinu, everything I have prayed is ultimately for one purpose:
Let the Father be glorified.
Not me.
Not my name.
Not my reputation.
Not my accomplishments.
Not my spiritual experiences.
Not my ministry.
Not my influence.
Not my knowledge.
You.
Let Your name be glorified.
Let Your holiness be glorified.
Let Your mercy be glorified.
Let Your righteousness be glorified.
Let Your faithfulness be glorified.
Let Your Kingdom be glorified.
Let Yeshua be honored as the Messiah whom I confess and follow.
Let my life become an instrument through which Your goodness is displayed.
If You raise me, keep me humble.
If You lower me, keep me faithful.
If You bless me, keep me grateful.
If You correct me, keep me teachable.
If You send me, keep me obedient.
If You withhold something, keep me trusting.
If You give me influence, keep me surrendered.
If You give me authority, keep me under Your authority.
If You give me victory, keep me at Your feet.
My Final Prayer
Hashem, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
I bow before You.
I surrender to You.
I submit to You.
I repent before You.
I ask You to tear down every high place of spiritual pride within me.
Let every mountain of self-exaltation be brought low.
Let every false altar fall.
Let every idol of reputation be destroyed.
Let every throne of ego collapse.
Let every ambition that competes with Your will be surrendered.
Let every secret desire for human glory be consumed by Your refining fire.
Let the fire of God purify my heart.
Let the holiness of Hashem govern my life.
Let the blood of Yeshua be my reminder of covenant mercy and sacrificial love.
Let the teachings of Yeshua continually bring me back to humility, servanthood, obedience, mercy, and surrender.
Let me never use spiritual authority to glorify myself.
Let me never use Scripture to elevate myself.
Let me never use ministry to build my own kingdom.
Let me never mistake spiritual gifts for personal superiority.
Let me never forget that I am dependent upon You.
Father, make me lowly in heart.
Make me teachable.
Make me obedient.
Make me faithful.
Make me merciful.
Make me courageous without becoming arrogant.
Make me discerning without becoming judgmental.
Make me zealous without becoming proud.
Make me strong without becoming self-reliant.
Make me influential without becoming self-exalting.
Make me fruitful without becoming boastful.
Make me useful without becoming impressed with myself.
Above everything, make me Yours.
Let Your Kingdom come.
Let Your will be done.
Let Your name be sanctified.
Let Your glory fill the earth.
Let the high peaks of pride fall before the majesty of Hashem.
Let humility become the posture of my heart.
Let surrender become the foundation of my warfare.
Let obedience become the evidence of my faith.
Let service become the expression of my love.
Let holiness become the fruit of my submission.
And let everything in my life ultimately declare:
Hashem alone is God.
Hashem alone is worthy.
Hashem alone receives the glory.
I lay every crown at Your feet.
I bow before Your throne.
I surrender my will to Your will.
I trust Your mercy.
I seek Your Kingdom.
I desire Your glory.
And I ask that everything You do in and through my life would point beyond me and toward You.
May the Father be glorified.
May Your Kingdom expand through Yeshua the Messiah.
May Your name be exalted forever.
I pray all of this with a surrendered heart, trusting in the mercy of Hashem and in Yeshua the Messiah.
In Yeshua’s name, amen.
