---

We live in a world of bright lights and red carpets.

It’s easy to be captivated. To admire the talent. The beauty. The charm.

As Messianic Jews, we walk a unique path. We embrace the truth of Yeshua HaMashiach while holding dear the eternal wisdom of the Torah. Our lives are a covenant. A set-apart journey.

But the world’s voice is loud. It constantly invites us to admire its idols.

Today, we must talk about one of the biggest modern idols: Hollywood.

And we must have the courage to talk about a specific, celebrated star: Emma Stone.

This is a difficult conversation. It requires discernment. It is not a personal attack, but a spiritual examination. We are commanded to test the spirits (1 John 4:1).

So let's test what is being celebrated.

The Allure and The Conflict: When Talent Overshadows Truth

Emma Stone is undeniably gifted. She is charismatic. She has won the highest awards in her field.

It’s natural to appreciate artistic skill. But our admiration must never come at the cost of our spiritual discernment.

The Torah is clear. We are to be holy, for Adonai our God is holy (Leviticus 19:2). This holiness extends to what we watch. What we listen to. And who we choose to uplift.

Yeshua warned us powerfully about the eye:

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.” (Matthew 6:22-23)

What we choose to look upon matters. It fills us with either light or darkness.

When we look to Hollywood stars as role models, we must ask: Does their work bring light? Or does it bring darkness?

A Biblical Blueprint: The Jezebel Spirit Exposed

To understand the conflict, we need a biblical framework. We find it in the story of Jezebel.

Jezebel was not just a sinful woman. She was a queen who used her influence to lead an entire nation into idolatry and sexual immorality.

She represented a spirit that continues today.

“Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: You permit that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and to eat things sacrificed to idols.” (Revelation 2:20)

This spirit is characterized by:

· Seduction: Using charm and sexuality to gain influence and power.

· Idolatry: Replacing the worship of the One True God with the worship of other things (including fame and self).

· Manipulation: Controlling narratives and people to achieve its goals.

· Immoral Influence: Leading others away from covenant faithfulness.

This is not about a person's salvation. That is between them and God. This is about recognizing the spirit that operates through cultural products and understanding how it conflicts with our values.

Discerning the Spirit in Modern Media

Now, let’s apply this lens to Emma Stone’s body of work. This isn't about judging her heart, but about evaluating the content she chooses to create and propagate.

Her filmography is a catalog of values opposed to the Torah.

· Sexual Content & Nudity: Films like Easy A glorify a false narrative about sexuality and reputation. Magic in the Moonlight and The Favourite include sexual content and themes that normalize immorality. The Torah calls us to modesty and purity (tzniut), not the commercialization of intimacy.

· Violence & Abuse: Zombieland glorifies gratuitous violence for entertainment. Birdman and The Favourite explore dark themes of manipulation and emotional abuse. We are called to pursue peace and love our neighbors.

· Spiritual Darkness: Cruella champions a villainous, narcissistic identity. This is the opposite of the call to die to ourselves.

These choices are not accidental. They are a reflection of values. They are the modern equivalent of "eating things sacrificed to idols."

By participating in this content, we are allowing the Jezebel spirit—the spirit of seduction, idolatry, and immorality—a seat at our table.

What Yeshua Said About Our Influences

Our Messiah’s words were direct. He spoke about stumbling blocks.

“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matthew 18:6)

This is a serious warning for those in influence.

When a celebrity uses their massive platform to normalize immorality and violence, they become a stumbling block. When we, as believers, then celebrate that person, we risk becoming complicit.

Yeshua also called us to be the salt and light of the world (Matthew 5:13-16). Salt preserves and purifies. It prevents decay.

How can we be salt if we are consuming and celebrating the very things that cause cultural decay?

Guarding Your Heart and Home: A Messianic Action Plan

This isn’t just about criticism. It’s about solution. How do we guard our hearts?

1. Practice Intentional Discernment: Before watching a movie or show, research it. Use tools that detail content. Ask: "Will this fill my eye with light or darkness?"

2. Curate Your Admiration: Who are your role models? Shift your admiration from Hollywood stars to the heroes of our faith. The prophets. The apostles. The faithful men and women in your community.

3. Reclaim Your Standards: The world says "it's just a movie." The Torah says you shall be holy. Hold fast to the higher standard. It is your identity.

4. Fill Your Home with Light: Actively choose media that aligns with Torah values. Listen to worship music. Read books that build up your faith. As King David wrote:

“I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me.” (Psalm 101:3)

   Make this your family’s decree.

The Call to Be Set Apart (Kadosh)

Beloved community, we are called to be a set-apart people.

Am Yisrael Chai! The people of Israel live!

We live not for the world’s applause, but for the applause of Heaven. We do not seek the approval of man, but the approval of our Father.

Emma Stone is a symptom of a larger issue. The issue is the world’s system, which is in rebellion against the Creator.

We are in the world, but not of it (John 17:14-16).

Let us therefore choose wisely. Let us reject the Jezebel spirit of seduction and idolatry. Let us turn our eyes away from what is dark and toward what is true, noble, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8).

Let us fix our eyes on Yeshua, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). He is the only star worthy of our complete worship.

What will you set before your eyes today?
