What Yeshua Teaches About Responding To Corrupt Authority | When The Protectors Become The Threat
When Silence Speaks, and When We Must Speak: Yeshua’s Example in the Face of Power
A Story to Begin
The night was thick with tension. Yeshua stood before Pilate, a Roman governor with power in his voice and soldiers at his command. The crowd outside roared, demanding crucifixion. The leaders who should have upheld justice schemed instead to condemn an innocent man.
And what did Yeshua do? Sometimes He spoke, pointing to truth. Other times He was silent, refusing to dignify false accusations. Through it all, He stood in dignity, courage, and complete trust in the Father.
This is more than a story of long ago. It is a blueprint for how we, as His followers, can navigate corrupt authority today.

Yeshua’s Balance: Courage and Submission
In John 19:11, Yeshua tells Pilate:
> “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above.”
Here Yeshua acknowledges the reality of Pilate’s power, but also its limit. Every earthly authority operates only by HaShem’s permission. This should bring us both peace and courage. Peace—because no ruler is above God. Courage—because we serve the Higher Authority above them all.
In practical life, this means we can stand firm in truth without fear, knowing that even corrupt leaders are not ultimate.

Knowing When to Speak and When to Be Silent
There were moments when Yeshua spoke boldly against injustice:
He called the Pharisees “whitewashed tombs” (Matthew 23:27).
He overturned the tables of the moneychangers (Mark 11:15-17).
Yet there were also times when He chose silence:
Before Pilate, He often gave no answer to false charges (Mark 15:5).
This balance is wisdom for us. Sometimes speaking truth boldly is needed. Other times, silence exposes the injustice more powerfully than words. Our call is to seek the Spirit’s discernment in each moment.

Refusing the Trap of Bitterness
In Psalm 37:7-8 we read:
> “Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.”
Bitterness is the trap of corrupt systems. It corrodes our hearts and steals our joy. Yeshua modeled another way: even as He endured betrayal, false accusations, and unjust punishment, He prayed, “Father, forgive them” (Luke 23:34).
This does not excuse injustice, but it prevents the poison of hatred from ruling us.

Practical Reflections
So how do we live out Yeshua’s example today?
1. Stay rooted in prayer. Before responding to authority, ask HaShem for discernment—whether to speak, act, or remain silent.
2. Stand in truth without compromise. Yeshua never lied or softened truth to save Himself. Neither should we.
3. Guard against bitterness. Resist the temptation to mirror the corruption we oppose. Instead, let compassion and justice guide us.
4. Remember who we ultimately serve. Earthly leaders come and go. Yeshua reigns forever.

A Word of Encouragement
Brothers and sisters, if you find yourself facing unjust power, remember: Yeshua has already walked this road. He understands your fear, your frustration, your desire for justice. And He promises to be with you, giving wisdom and strength.
Isaiah 41:10 says:
> “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Take comfort—He upholds you, just as He upheld Yeshua in His darkest hour.
