When The Shadows Rise—The Light Still Refuses To Be Silenced
When The Shadows Rise—The Light Still Refuses To Be Silenced
When the Darkness Tries to Defile: Finding Light in the Face of Spiritual Attack
The message came in quietly, a private note tucked into the corner of a busy online community. The words were hesitant, almost embarrassed, but laced with a very real fear. A young mother, a believer, described finding a small, repulsive parcel on her doorstep—wrapped clumsily, containing waste and twisted symbols. It was placed deliberately, not randomly. Her heart pounded with a primal terror. Was it a curse? A hex? Why her family? She felt violated, scared, and worse, spiritually unclean. She prayed, but the fear lingered like a shadow in her home, making her question the very air she breathed.
If you are reading this, and your spirit resonates with a story like this—whether you’ve encountered something so blatantly dark or you simply feel the weight of a targeted spiritual oppression—please know this first and foremost: you are not alone. Your fear is understandable, but it is not your master. Your feeling of violation is real, but it does not define your home. You have been seen in your moment of distress, and you are now being covered in prayer.
This specific, ancient tactic—using excrement and filth to try to curse, defile, and intimidate—is a weapon of psychological and spiritual warfare. Its goal is not just to frighten, but to instill a sense of impurity and shame, to make you feel that your sanctuary has been breached and your blessings contaminated. It is an attack on your peace, your family, and your identity. But we serve a God who specializes in redeeming what is broken and cleansing what is unclean.
The Weapon of Filth and the Reality of Spiritual Warfare
The enemy’s playbook is old, and his strategies are repetitive. Using filth as a tool of defilement and curse is a concept that appears in scripture, highlighting how the darkness operates. It is meant to be a physical representation of a spiritual intent: to soil, to dirty, to separate you from the sense of holiness and peace that is your birthright in Messiah.
We must be clear-eyed about this: such acts are not powerful in and of themselves. Their power is derived from fear, from agreement, and from the permission we might unintentionally give them through our terror. The enemy is a deceiver, a manipulator who packages lies in tangible forms to make them feel more real. But we must remember the truth: “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4). The presence of filth on your doorstep does not have the power to cancel the presence of the Holy Spirit within your home.
The Unshakeable Truth of Your Protection
When we feel attacked, our first response is often to look at the weapon pointed at us. But our first response should always be to look at our Shield and our Fortress.
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” (Psalm 91:1-2)
This is one of the most powerful declarations we have. It doesn’t say that trouble will never come near us. It says that when it does, we have a shelter, a shadow, a place of ultimate rest and protection. The imagery is of a bird sheltering her chicks under her wings—a place of safety, warmth, and intimacy. In practical terms, this means when you hear of these tactics or experience them, your first action is not to panic, but to dwell. Dwell in His presence. Literally speak out loud: “I dwell in the shelter of the Most High. I am hidden in the shadow of the Almighty. This home is a dwelling place for God’s spirit, and no weapon formed against it will prosper.” You take the truth of God and you apply it directly to the point of attack.
The Cleansing Power of the Word
The Gospels show us time and again that Jesus was not afraid of impurity. He touched the leper. He healed the bleeding woman. He cast demons into a herd of pigs—animals considered unclean—and watched them rush into the sea, a symbol of the abyss, forever removed (Mark 5:1-13). He confronted the spiritual darkness head-on and demonstrated absolute authority over it.
“Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’” (John 8:31-32)
In everyday life, this is our practical weapon. The enemy deals in lies (“You are defiled,” “You are cursed,” “You are vulnerable”). We counter with the truth of God’s Word. We abide in it. We live there. We fill our homes with worship and prayer. We speak scriptures of protection and cleansing over our doorposts, just as we might physically clean a physical mess. The truth of Jesus Christ sets us free from the lie that any earthly element has power over our spiritual destiny.
Your Response: From Fear to Faith
So, what do we do when we hear of these attacks or face them ourselves?
1. Do Not Fear: Fear is the intended outcome. Refuse to deliver it. Your fear is a currency the enemy wants; do not pay him.
2. Pray for Cleansing and Protection: Pray over your property. Ask God to send His angels to guard your home. Pray for a wall of holy fire around your dwelling. There is power in the prayer of a righteous person (James 5:16).
3. Take Practical Steps: If you find a suspicious object, do not handle it with bare hands. Remove it safely and dispose of it. Then, spiritually, treat it like the garbage it is—something to be taken out and forgotten. Physically clean the area, and then pray over it, claiming that space for the Lord.
4. Praise and Worship: Fill the spiritual atmosphere with the opposite of what was intended. Where the enemy meant defilement, bring holiness. Where he meant fear, bring faith-filled praise. Play worship music. Sing. Read Psalms aloud. Light a candle and thank God that He is the light that darkness cannot overcome (John 1:5).
You Are Part of a Holy Community
Beloved, we are not meant to fight these battles alone. We are one body, and when one part hurts, we all feel it. The enemy wants you to feel isolated and ashamed, to bottle up your fear. But there is immense power in sharing your burden with faithful brothers and sisters who will stand in the gap with you.
If this message has spoken to you, if you are feeling the weight of spiritual warfare, or if you simply want to strengthen your walk and be part of a community that stands on the front lines of faith, we welcome you.
