Sukkot To-Do List - Simple Checklist for Celebrating the Feast of Booths

1. Prepare the Sukkah

  • Build, decorate, or clean the sukkah.
  • Add comfortable seating and simple decorations.
  • Make sure there is appropriate schach (covering).

2. Gather the Four Species

  • Prepare the lulav (palm branch).
  • Prepare the etrog (citron).
  • Add the hadasim (myrtle branches).
  • Add the aravot (willow branches).

3. Read the Scriptures

  • Read Leviticus 23:33–43.
  • Read Deuteronomy 16:13–17.
  • Read Nehemiah 8:13–18.
  • Read John 7 and reflect on Yeshua during the Feast.

4. Pray and Give Thanks

  • Thank HaShem for His provision and faithfulness.
  • Pray for your family, community, Israel, and the nations.
  • Ask Elohim to help you remember that He is your true dwelling place and protection.

5. Eat a Meal in the Sukkah

  • Prepare a festive meal.
  • Eat together in the sukkah whenever practical.
  • Invite family or friends to share the meal.

6. Celebrate with Joy

  • Sing songs of praise.
  • Tell stories.
  • Share blessings and words of encouragement.
  • Remember that Sukkot is a season of rejoicing.

7. Remember Those Who Have Less

  • Donate food or supplies to someone in need.
  • Invite someone who might otherwise celebrate alone.
  • Look for a practical way to show hospitality.

8. Spend Time in the Sukkah

  • Read Scripture.
  • Pray.
  • Talk with family.
  • Enjoy a meal or cup of tea.
  • Spend quiet time thanking HaShem.

9. Teach the Children

  • Explain why Israel lived in temporary booths.
  • Let children help decorate the sukkah.
  • Make simple Sukkot crafts.
  • Teach them about the Four Species.

10. End the Day with Gratitude

  • Reflect on God's provision throughout the past year.
  • Thank HaShem for His presence.
  • Ask for wisdom and faithfulness in the year ahead.
  • Rejoice in the hope and redemption found in Messiah Yeshua.
