Prayer Of Fire & Kingdom Light | A Havdalah Supplication
My Heavenly Father, HaShem, the Holy One of Israel, as the last rays of this set-apart Shabbat light fade into the twilight and the first stars appear as Your promises in the heavens, I come before You. I stand in awe of Your perfect design, of six days for creation and this one, precious day of rest, a foretaste of the world to come. You have commanded us to remember it and keep it holy, and You have blessed it and sanctified it above all days. And now, as we mark the separation between the holy and the ordinary, I ask not for the holiness to leave me, but for it to explode from this place and fill the coming week.
Abba, my heart’s deepest cry is for Your Name to be glorified. Let every breath I take in the coming days be an anthem of praise to You. Let every thought be taken captive to the obedience of Your majesty. Let every action, every word, every silent intention of my heart reverberate through the heavens and the earth as a testimony to who You are. Father, glorify Your Name! As Your prophet Isaiah declared, “The whole earth is full of your glory!” I pray that it would be made manifest, that every eye would see, every knee would bow, and every tongue would confess that You, HaShem, are Elohim, the King of the universe.
And I know, Father, that the ultimate revelation of Your glory, the complete and final expression of Your character and Your love, is found in Your only begotten Son, my Messiah and my Redeemer, Yeshua ha'Mashiach. It is in His name, and through His perfect sacrifice, that I dare to approach Your throne of grace. I cover myself now, my family, my home, and all that I am with the sacred and powerful shield of Yeshua’s blood. That blood, shed for the remission of sins, is my protection against the darkness of this world. It is my mark of redemption, my sign of the covenant You have made with me. It is by His stripes that I am healed, and by His blood that I am cleansed and set free. Let this shield be a fortress around me, not for my comfort, but for my commission.
For that blood was shed to establish a Kingdom. Your Kingdom! The Kingdom You promised to our father David, an everlasting throne. The Kingdom Yeshua proclaimed, saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Father, I pray for the expansion of that Kingdom. Let it come! Let Your will be done on earth, in my city, in my nation, as it is in heaven. Let it expand through the preaching of the good news of Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah. Let it expand through acts of radical love and mercy. Let it expand in the quiet moments of faithfulness and in the roaring proclamation of truth. Use my hands, my feet, and my voice as a vessel for its advancement. Tear down every stronghold of the enemy that stands in opposition to the knowledge of God and the reign of Your Anointed One.
And now, Abba, I ask for Your fire! Send the fire of Your presence that burned in the bush before Moshe, holy and unconsuming. Send the fire that fell on Mount Carmel before Eliyahu, proving that You alone are God. Send the Ruach HaKodesh, the Holy Spirit, whom my Messiah Yeshua promised You would give to those who ask, the Spirit who appeared as tongues of fire at Shavuot. Consume the chaff within me—my pride, my fear, my doubt, my apathy. Refine me like silver and purify me like gold. Let Your holy fire burn away all that is of my flesh and my self, until only that which is of You remains. Let me be a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable, a light set on a hill that cannot be hidden. May my life burn with a relentless, passionate flame for You, so that others may see my good works and glorify You, my Father in heaven.
As I light the braided Havdalah candle, a symbol of the many lights of Your truth coming together, I pray that the fire of its flame would be a tiny reflection of Your glorious, all-consuming fire. Let it symbolize the light of Messiah going out from this home into a world that sits in darkness.
You are my God, and I will praise You; you are my Elohim, I will exalt you. Thank you for the rest of Shabbat. Thank you for the promise of the Olam Haba, the World to Come, where every day will be a Shabbat of perfect peace in Your presence. Thank you for Yeshua, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, and who is the bright and morning star.
I ask all these things, not through my own merit, but through the name above every name, the name of Yeshua the Messiah, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and the Root of David.
Amen.
