Ne’ilah Prayer | Closing Prayer For Yom Kippur
Prayer for when the gates are symbolically closing. This prayer calls on HaShem for mercy, invokes the shield of Yeshua’s blood, the fire of God, and seeks the Father’s glory and Kingdom expansion through Yeshua. All verses come only from the Tanakh (Old Testament) and the Gospels.
Ne’ilah: Closing Prayer for Yom Kippur
Avinu Malkeinu, my Father and my King,
As the sun begins to set and the gates of Yom Kippur draw to their close, I lift my voice with urgency, with longing, and with hope. HaShem, You are my Rock and my Redeemer, my Judge and my Deliverer. “The LORD, the LORD, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness” (Exodus 34:6).
I know that my life is in Your hands, for “in Him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28 — but since you asked not to use Paul’s writings, I’ll refrain). Instead, I remember Your words through the prophet: “The breath of the Almighty gives me life” (Job 33:4). Abba, as the gates of this holy day close, breathe new life into me, that I may walk in holiness before You.
I come under the shield of Yeshua’s blood, for apart from His covering I cannot stand. “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). Father, may the blood of Your Anointed One shield me from judgment and clothe me in righteousness.
As this day ends, I cry out for the fire of God. Let Your holy fire burn away the residue of sin, selfishness, and doubt. “I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the LORD, and I will be the glory in her midst” (Zechariah 2:5). Father, be my wall of fire, my protection, and my holiness. Fill me with the fire of Your Spirit, that I may shine brightly for Your Kingdom.
Yeshua said: “Watch therefore, for you do not know the day nor the hour when the Son of Man is coming” (Matthew 25:13). Father, let me leave this Yom Kippur awake, alert, and ready for the return of my King. Do not let me slumber in sin. Do not let me grow dull in spirit. Keep my lamp burning with the oil of Your presence.
Abba, glorify Yourself in Israel. You promised: “On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity” (Zechariah 13:1). Let that fountain flow through Yeshua, the living water, and bring cleansing to Your people. May the veil be lifted, and may Israel recognize her Messiah.
Glorify Yourself in the nations. Yeshua said: “This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14). Father, let this Yom Kippur be a prophetic cry to the nations: turn, repent, believe, and enter into atonement through Yeshua.
Father, You declared: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14). As the gates of this Yom Kippur close, open wide the gates of heaven. Pour out Your Spirit. Fill the earth with Your glory.
I hear the echo of Yeshua’s prayer: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:9–10). Yes, Abba, let it be so. May this fast, this prayer, this humbling of heart be received as a fragrant offering before You.
And now, as the final shofar blast approaches, I cry out with all that is in me: Father, glorify Your Name! “And a voice came from heaven: ‘I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again’” (John 12:28).
B’shem Yeshua HaMashiach — in the holy Name of Yeshua the Messiah,
Amen.
