Psalm 27:1 (NIV)

“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”

Meaning

This verse expresses complete confidence in God during difficult or dangerous times.

  • “The Lord is my light” — God provides guidance, truth, hope, and direction when life feels dark or uncertain.
  • “My salvation” — God is the source of deliverance and rescue, both spiritually and from life's troubles.
  • “The stronghold of my life” — A stronghold is a fortress or place of protection. The psalmist, traditionally , is saying that God is his ultimate security and refuge.
  • “Whom shall I fear?” — Because God is with him, he does not need to be controlled by fear of people, circumstances, or enemies.
