Encouragement for Someone Feeling Distant from God based on Isaiah 43:19

Devotional for Someone Feeling Distant from God - You’re Not Too Far From God, He Is Making a Way Where You Can’t See One Yet

πŸ“– Scripture

“Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.” — Isaiah 43:19

πŸ’› Inspirational Message

There are seasons when I can feel incredibly close to God—and then there are seasons when I wonder, “Where did He go?”
Maybe I still pray, but my prayers feel empty.
Maybe I open my Bible, but the words don't seem to reach my heart the way they once did.
Maybe I worship, but I don't feel anything.
And sometimes, the hardest part isn't that I stopped loving God.
It's that I miss feeling close to Him.
But Isaiah 43:19 reminds me of something I desperately need to remember:
God can be working even when I cannot see what He is doing.
God says, “I will do a new thing.”
Notice that He doesn't say, “You need to figure everything out first.”
He doesn't say, “Get yourself together, and then I'll come near.”
He says He will make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
A wilderness is a place where the path isn't obvious.
A desert is a place where water seems impossible.
Yet God specializes in making a way where there appears to be no way.
So if I feel distant from God today, I don't have to assume that He has abandoned me.
Perhaps He is inviting me to slow down.
Perhaps He is teaching me to seek Him without depending entirely on my emotions.
Perhaps something new is beginning beneath the surface of my life.
I may not see the road yet. I may not see the river yet. But God is still able to make both.
My feelings may change from day to day.
God's faithfulness does not.
And sometimes the first step back toward God isn't a dramatic spiritual experience.
Sometimes it's simply whispering:
“God, I'm here. I miss You. Help me find my way back to You.”
That prayer is enough to begin.

🌱 3 Positive Affirmations

  1. I am not forgotten by God. Even when I cannot feel Him, I can trust His faithfulness.

  2. God is able to make a road through the wilderness of my life and bring refreshing to the dry places of my heart.

  3. I believe something new can spring forth in my life, even when I cannot see it yet.

🌿 3 Tips for Drawing Near to God

  1. Stop pretending everything is fine.

I don't have to impress God with perfect prayers.
I can tell Him exactly where I am.
“God, I feel distant from You.”
Honesty can become the beginning of intimacy.

  1. Return to simple moments with God.

I don't need an elaborate routine.
I can spend five quiet minutes reading Scripture, sitting in silence, praying, or simply thanking God for one thing.
Small steps still move me forward.

  1. Look for the “new thing.”

Isaiah says, “Now it shall spring forth.”
Instead of only asking, “Why don't I feel close to God anymore?” I can also ask:
“God, what are You beginning in me that I haven't recognized yet?”
Sometimes I am so focused on what I have lost that I miss what God is growing.

πŸ’ Quick Reflection

Take a quiet moment and ask yourself:

Where do I currently feel spiritually dry?

Have I mistaken God's silence for God's absence?

What would it look like for me to take one small step toward God today?

Where might God be creating a “road in the wilderness” or a “river in the desert” in my life?

Then sit quietly for a moment.
I don't have to force an answer.
I can simply remain open.

πŸ™ Prayer

Father,
I come to You exactly as I am.
Sometimes I feel close to You, and sometimes I feel so far away. There are moments when I wonder if You hear me or if You are still working in my life.
Today, I choose to trust Your Word more than my feelings.
You promised to do a new thing.
You promised to make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
So, Lord, make a way through the places in my heart that feel dry, lonely, confused, or distant.
Help me recognize Your presence even when I don't experience it emotionally.
Give me the courage to seek You again.
Renew my desire for Your Word. Renew my prayer life. Renew my hope.
And if You are beginning something new in me, open my eyes so I can recognize it.
Help me remember that a wilderness is not the end of the story.
A desert is not the end of the story.
You are still able to make a way.
Thank You for not giving up on me.
Help me draw near to You one step at a time.
Amen.

☀️ Daily Reminder

I am not too far from God.
When my heart feels dry, I will remember Isaiah 43:19.
God can make a road where I see no path. God can bring rivers where I see only desert. God can cause something new to spring forth.
I don't have to see everything today.
I simply need to keep walking with Him. 🌿
