Bible Verses for Sukkot From The Gospels of Yeshua
Since the Gospels do not contain a formal commandment to celebrate Sukkot in the same way the Torah does, the most direct Gospel passages are those describing Yeshua’s presence at the Feast of Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles), especially in John 7–8.
π
1. John 7:2 — The Feast of Sukkot
“Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand.”
Sukkot theme: The Gospel explicitly identifies the Feast of Tabernacles.
2. John 7:10 — Yeshua Goes to the Feast
“But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.”
Sukkot theme: Yeshua Himself went up to Jerusalem for the Feast.
3. John 7:14 — Yeshua Teaches at the Feast
“Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.”
Sukkot theme: The Feast became an occasion for Yeshua to teach publicly in the Temple.
4. John 7:37 — Living Water
“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.”
Sukkot theme: This is one of the most powerful Sukkot passages in the Gospels. Yeshua presents Himself as the source of spiritual life and living water.
5. John 7:38 — Rivers of Living Water
“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”
Sukkot theme: Water, abundance, spiritual renewal, and the outpouring of God's Spirit.
6. John 7:39 — The Spirit
“But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive…”
Sukkot theme: Sukkot points beyond physical water toward the life-giving work of the Spirit.
7. John 8:12 — The Light of the World
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
Sukkot theme: Light was an important part of the Temple celebrations surrounding the Feast. Yeshua identifies Himself as the Light of the World.
8. John 8:14 — Yeshua's Testimony
“Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true…”
Sukkot theme: Yeshua declares the truth of His identity and mission.
9. John 8:31–32 — Abiding in His Word
“If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Sukkot theme: Sukkot is a season of remembering God's faithfulness and learning to dwell in His presence. Yeshua calls His followers to remain in His word.
10. John 8:56 — Abraham Rejoiced
“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.”
Sukkot theme: Yeshua connects Himself to the promises and faith of the patriarchs.
11. Matthew 1:23 — God With Us
“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
Sukkot theme: At its heart, Sukkot remembers God dwelling among His people. Emmanuel—God with us—beautifully echoes this theme.
