I have compiled 50 Bible verses from the Old Testament that speak to intercession, praying on behalf of others, mediating, or pleading for God’s mercy. All references are from the NKJV. I’ve grouped them loosely by theme for easier reading.

1–10: Abraham and Interceding for Others

  1. Genesis 18:23 – “Then Abraham came near and said: ‘Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?’”

  2. Genesis 18:24 – “Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city; would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who were in it?”

  3. Genesis 18:25 – “Far be it from You to do such a thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked…”

  4. Genesis 18:26 – “That be far from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

  5. Genesis 18:27 – “And Abraham answered and said, ‘Now indeed I have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord…’”

  2. 1 Samuel 7:8 – “So Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord…”

  3. 1 Samuel 12:23 – “Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you…”

  4. 2 Samuel 7:18 – “Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and said: ‘Who am I, O Lord God…’”
