When Life Feels Unfair - Remembering The Goodness Of God


Life can be unpredictable and challenging. Sometimes, it can feel like we are dealt an unfair hand. We may experience loss, disappointment, or pain that seems unbearable. During these times, it can be difficult to find hope and to trust that things will get better. However, one way to find comfort and hope is by remembering the goodness of God.

1. God is Good

The Bible tells us that God is good. In Psalm 100:5, it says, "For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." This means that God is always good, even when our circumstances are not. We can trust that God cares for us and that He is working for our good, even when we can't see the outcome.

2. God is Just

Another aspect of God's character that can bring us comfort is His justice. In Deuteronomy 32:4, it says, "He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he." This means that God is fair and that He will ultimately make things right. Even if we don't see justice in our lifetime, we can trust that God will bring justice in His own time.

3. God is Compassionate

God is not only good and just, but He is also compassionate. In Psalm 103:13, it says, "As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him." This means that God cares for us and understands our pain. He is not distant or uncaring, but He is present with us in our struggles.

4. God is Faithful

Another way to find comfort in the goodness of God is by remembering His faithfulness. In Lamentations 3:22-23, it says, "Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." This means that God is always faithful, even when we are not. We can trust that God will keep His promises and that He will never leave us or forsake us.

5. God is Sovereign

Finally, we can find comfort in the goodness of God by remembering that He is sovereign. In Isaiah 46:9-10, it says, "Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, 'My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.'" This means that God is in control, even when things seem out of control. We can trust that God has a plan and a purpose for our lives, even if we don't understand it.

In conclusion, when life feels unfair, we can find comfort and hope in the goodness of God. We can remember that God is good, just, compassionate, faithful, and sovereign. We can trust that He cares for us and that He is working for our good, even when we can't see the outcome. We can find peace in knowing that God is in control and that He will ultimately make things right. As it says in Romans 8:28, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
