I remember the first time I really tasted it.

Not just with my mouth… but with my heart.

It was sweet—apples, honey, spices… familiar and comforting. But as I held it in my hand during Passover, I felt something unsettling rise up inside me.

Because I knew what it represented.

The mortar of slavery
The weight of forced labor
The suffering of our people in Egypt

And yet… it was sweet.

That contradiction stopped me.

And in that moment, I felt the whisper of the Spirit:

“You’ve misunderstood suffering… and you’ve underestimated redemption.”

Why Is Something So Painful Made So Sweet?

Let me ask you something honestly:

Have you ever walked through something bitter…
Something confusing…
Something that didn’t feel like God at all…

…and wondered:

“Where are You in this?”

I have.

There were moments in my life where I felt like I was stuck in my own Egypt—trapped between fear and faith, crying out but hearing silence.

And yet, when I came out on the other side, something had changed.

Not just my situation.

Me.

The Hidden Pattern in the Passover Table

When we sit at the Seder, we don’t just remember history—we step into a divine pattern.

We taste:

Maror (bitter herbs) → the reality of pain
Charoset (sweet mixture) → the mystery of redemption

And we eat them together.

That’s not accidental.

That’s prophetic.

Because God never wastes bitterness.

The First Time God Turned Bitter Into Sweet

Let me take you back.

Our ancestors had just left Egypt—finally free—but only days into the wilderness, they hit a wall.

Water.

But it was bitter.

Unbearable.

Undrinkable.

“And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter…” — Exodus 15:23

I can feel that moment.

Freedom… followed by disappointment.

Hope… followed by frustration.

Sound familiar?

But then something unexpected happens.

“And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD showed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet…” — Exodus 15:25

A tree.

Thrown into bitterness.

And everything changed.

Yeshua Reveals the Deeper Meaning

Years later, Yeshua would say something that echoes this pattern:

“If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.” — Matthew 16:24

The cross… is a tree.

The same pattern.

Bitterness exists
God provides a tree
The tree transforms the bitterness

This isn’t coincidence.

This is the language of redemption.

What Charoset Is Really Trying to Tell You

When I hold charoset now, I don’t just see slavery.

I see a question:

“What if the very thing that hurt you… is the place where God will reveal His sweetness?”

Let that sit for a moment.

Because most of us do one of two things:

We try to escape bitterness at all costs
Or we get stuck in it, believing it defines us

But God offers a third way:

👉 Transformation.

The Problem Most Believers Face (But Rarely Admit)

Let me be real with you.

Many of us love the idea of redemption…

But we struggle with the process.

We ask:

Why is this taking so long?
Why does this still hurt?
If God is good, why does this feel so bitter?

Even the psalmist cried out:

“Why are you cast down, O my soul?” — Psalm 42:5

And Yeshua Himself, in His deepest moment of pain, said:

“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” — Matthew 27:46

If He voiced that pain…

Then your struggle doesn’t disqualify you.

It invites you deeper.

The Turning Point: When Bitter Meets Sweet

Here’s what I’ve learned—often the hard way:

God doesn’t remove every bitter situation immediately…
but He will meet you inside it.

And when He does, something supernatural happens:

Your perspective shifts
Your heart softens
Your faith deepens

“Taste and see that the LORD is good…” — Psalm 34:8

Notice that word: taste.

Not analyze.

Not understand.

Taste.

Just like charoset.

3 Ways to Let God Turn Your Bitterness Into Sweetness

1. Stop Running From the Bitter Place

I used to avoid pain.

Distract myself.

Numb it.

But healing didn’t begin until I faced it—with God.

Ask yourself:

What bitterness am I avoiding right now?

Bring it before Him honestly.

2. Invite the “Tree” Into Your Situation

Remember Marah.

The bitterness didn’t change… until the tree was introduced.

For us, that means:

Surrendering the situation
Trusting Yeshua in the middle of it
Letting His presence redefine it

“Abide in Me, and I in you…” — John 15:4

3. Expect Sweetness—Even If You Don’t See It Yet

This is where faith stretches.

Not denial.

Not pretending everything is okay.

But choosing to believe:

God is working… even here.

“You intended evil against me, but God intended it for good…” — Genesis 50:20

What If Your Story Isn’t Over Yet?

Let me speak to the part of you that still feels stuck.

Still hurting.

Still waiting.

This is not the end of your story.

The charoset on your plate is a prophetic reminder:

Slavery was real
Pain was real
But so was deliverance

And somehow…

God made something sweet out of something bitter.

A Personal Reflection (From My Heart to Yours)

I’ll be honest.

There are still areas in my life where I’m waiting to taste that sweetness.

Places where the bitterness feels… fresh.

But when I hold charoset now, I remember:

God has done it before
God is doing it now
God will do it again

And that gives me hope.
